Shari Cruse - Pacific Masters 2024 Coach of the Year

Shari’s contributions to her team, the Marin Aquatic Masters, formerly Swymnuts, have been ongoing for a decade. While a swimmer on the team, Shari jumped in to assist the head coach while also earning her Level 1-3 Coach Certifications.  With the departure of the head coach eight years ago, Shari took command of the club, consolidated three separate workout groups, rebranded the team as Marin Aquatic Masters, and several years later managed the transition to a new facility. Under Shari’s leadership, the team has become a dynamic force in Pacific Masters, financially stable and growing. She kept MAQ together during the pandemic, saving the sanity of many.

A particular focus of Shari’s is the Adult Learn to Swim program. After conducting her team's ALTS program last summer, in October she assembled 2 relay teams from her ALTS program graduates at the short course meters championships in Walnut Creek. These newly crowned swimmers swam a demonstration 200 free relay to the amazement and delight of the crowd. Shari has also devised a unique and successful process for transitioning ALTS graduates to Masters members.

Shari has assumed a number of leadership roles in Pacific Masters. She brought the 2022 LCM Championships to the new Miwok Aquatic Center at the Indian Valley College campus in Novato. With her success as Meet Director, MAQ repeated as host of the LCM Champs meet in 2023 and will do so again in 2024. Shari also helped bring the Pacific Masters Annual Celebration and Meeting to their facilities and hosted a new Short and Sweet meet in April, 2024.  Shari currently serves as a member of both the Adult Learn to Swim and Diversity and Inclusion committees and as the Pacific Masters VP of Clubs and Coaches.
