Each year, based on points scored in pool and open water competitions, Pacific Masters designates the top swimmers in each age group, men and women. The highest-ranking female and male are selected from all age groups to receive the Laura Val Outstanding Female Swimmer of the Year or Richard Burns Male Outstanding Swimmer on the Year award.

Presented during a break in the competition at the 2024 Pacific SCY Championships Ruth Shaps of Manatee Aquatic Masters was named the Laura Val recipient for 2023 and Joel Wilson of Santa Cruz Masters received the Richard Burns honor.
